A cyclist who was injured after being involved in a road traffic collision with a car yesterday has been identified.

Police in South Ribble appealed for help to identify the man after he came off his bike at the roundabout at the bottom of the slip road from junction 3 of the M65, near Wheelton, Chorley, at 10.10am.

The 30-year-old male cyclist, who is from the Hoghton area, had no personal documentation on him and had been unable to speak due to the head trauma he suffered.

The man, who has not been named by police, was identified after his mother reported him missing from home following a media appeal.

He remains in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on the High Dependency Unit where his condition is described as comfortable. A police investigation is now underway to establish what happened.

The woman driver of the blue BMW car has been questioned but not arrested.

As a fellow cyclist, I'd like to wish him a speedy recovery, and to all car drivers, try to bear in mind we may be going just as fast as you!!!
