Pupils win cash boost for school IT

Computer classes at a village school have come to life this term thanks to pupils who won £500 of IT equipment.

The current year six group at Rivington Primary, made up of just 13 children, took part in the annual Primary Schools Challenge competition run by Albany Science College.

And they scooped first prize after taking on challenges in science, maths, PE, food technology and general knowledge.

The children were up against teams from seven other local primaries, all keen to walk away with the winnings.

Rivington IT technician Simon Walters said: "We had enough computers so we decided to buy a range of simulation software that allows the children to do simple programming to work traffic lights and fairground rides."

The Primary School Challenge is now in its eighth year and, once again, there are eight local schools competing.

Albany head Don Higgs said: "We reinstated the Ready Steady Cook style challenge last year and it was very popular.

"We've had some great feedback from the schools and are looking forward to another enjoyable challenge."
