The police helicopter and a mountain rescue team were called into action when three fell-walkers became lost in the Rivington area.
The three women reported themselves lost at around 5.15pm on Sunday, February 14 as mist descended while they were walking in an area locally known as the Lead Mines.
Emergency services were contacted by mobile phone and the women were located by a team from Bolton Mountain Rescue.
There were no reported injuries.
