  • Chorley traders and shoppers can have say on town's covered market

Shoppers, traders and local business people in Chorley will be encouraged to have their say on the future of the town's famous covered market when a major consultation exercise kicks off later this month.

Chorley Council will unveil artists' impressions of what the market could look like by the end of 2008 during a two-day exhibition on the market between 10am and 3pm on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10.

The authority, which has budgeted for a major upgrade to the markets in the next six months, wants as many people as possible to see the suggested improvements and have their say.

The information will also be uploaded to the council's website to view and comment on.

Councillor Peter Malpas, Chorley's Executive Member, oversees the development of Chorley Markets as part of his role.

He said: "It's really important to everyone that we get this right and we want as many people as possible to look at these proposals and let us know their views.

"If you're a fan of Chorley Markets or you have definite ideas about how they could be improved please don't miss your chance to let us know what you think."

Among the proposals included in the improvement scheme is a new floor, new shutters and signage, a new roof space and a grand entrance designed to put the markets on the map.

Coun Malpas added: "We've already discussed many aspects of the improvement plans with the traders involved but we need everyone's view."
