Chorley resident, Heather Ingham, PR and marketing manager at Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park, has clinched an award equivalent to an Oscar at the annual shopping centre awards ceremony, the Purple Apples, in London.

She was competing with more than 120 marketing managers from centres from around the UK.

She scooped the award, a Purple Apple Merit, for her Greenest Heroes campaign, which ran in May 2007.

She was the only marketing manager from a retail and leisure park to win at the awards.

Heather Ingham said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park and I'm thrilled that our Greenest Heroes campaign has been recognised."

Judges at the awards ceremony praised the campaign for highlighting the importance of recycling and engaging the local community in a fun and innovative initiative.

Heather concludes: "I'm very proud to be bringing this award back to the North West and delighted to be sharing our best practice with shopping centres from around the UK."

The Greenest Heroes scheme aimed to encourage visitors to the park to think greener and get involved in recycling with a number of retailers at the shopping centre.
