  • Man struck by train near Euxton identified

British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed that the body of a man struck by a train near the Euxton is that of a 39-year-old man from the Chorley area.

Formal identification of the body took place yesterday evening, officers from the BTP said.

No further details about the man have been released.

BTP officers were called at 11.45am on Tuesday following reports that a person had been struck by a train about one-and-a-half miles south of Euxton station.

Officers from BTP and paramedics attended and a male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The train involved was the 08.51 Edinburgh to Birmingham New Street service.

The line was closed while the incident was dealt with and handed back to Network Rail just before 1pm.

BTP officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and preparing a file for the coroner.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
