The body of Chorley soldier Dave Markland will be flown home from Afghanistan today.
The bomb disposal expert, who was 36, was killed in an explosion in the Helmand province on Monday.
It was his eighth active tour of a distinguished 20-year military career.
His coffin will be met by members of his family at RAF Lyneham.
Warrant Officer Markland, a former Parklands pupil, was part of a team dealing with improvised explosive devices.
His coffin will be driven through Wootton Bassett, the market town which has paid dignified respect to dozens of fallen service people.
The procession will also mark the return to the UK of fellow soldiers Cpl Johnathan Moore and Pt Sean McDonald, who were also killed recently.
Details of WO Markland's funeral have still to be confirmed.
