Residents at a house in Euxton had a narrow escape after a ‘suspicious’ fire in a wheelie-bin threatened their home.
Two fire crews attended the address on Southgate at 5am on Saturday after a neighbour raised the alarm about a fire in a front garden.
Other neighbours filled buckets and extinguished the fire A fire service spokesman said this had prevented a serious escalation that could have resulted in injuries or death.
The fire started in a wheelie bin against the wall of the house, next to the front door.
On arrival fire crews used a ventilation unit to clear smoke from the house, as the fire had broken through a ground floor window.
The incident is being treated as suspicious.
