THE M61 motorway has reopened following a nine-car pile-up on the northbound carriageway at around 6.37am this morning.
The crash happened between junctions eight and nine, between Chorley and Clayton Brook.
Two people remained trapped in their vehicles with suspected injuries at 8am, while firefighters tried to remove them using specialist cutting equipment.
One person was being treated for a broken leg and collar bone.
