Newsagent attacked in raid on Chorley shop

Raiders with baseball bats attacked a shop owner during a night time raid on a newsagent’s in Clayton-le-Woods.
Police said NSS News, in Wigan Road, was targeted at around 2.20am on Monday after intruders smashed a front window.
The suspects, who were dressed in black, attempted to steal a locker containing stocks of cigarettes.
It is believed they escaped with around £400 worth of cigarettes and tobacco.
Sgt Azz Khan of Chorley police, said: “"The owners were woken by armed intruders who were trying to break-in to a cigarette locker.
“The male shop-owner, who lived on the premises, got hit as the men tried to get away.
"A black vehicle was seen heading towards M6 south.
"A similar robbery later took place in St Helens and a vehicle like the one described was found in Billinge."
He added that investigations were continuing into the incident.
