Charnock Richard aim to climb football ladder

Charnock Richard hope the completion of a new stand will help them in their ambition to become a force in non-league football.
The £60,000 project, supplemented with £6,000 from Chorley Council, includes a stand seating over 100 people and six disabled spaces along with security and pitch fencing and dug outs at their Mossie Close ground in the village.
The ground will then have a capacity of between 400 and 500.
The team currently play in the West Lancashire League Premier Division but the club has ambitions of reaching the North West Counties league and further up the football ladder.
Club secretary John Stringer said: "The new development will make us look a more professional outfit and will provide much needed covered accommodation for our long suffering spectators who currently stand out in all weathers.
"We have emerged as one of the top clubs at our level and continuously try to improve our home ground.
"We got to the stage where making these improvements was the only way of moving up.
"By showing this ambition we hope to attract the best of local players and reach the North West Counties league.
"The support from Chorley Council was fantastic and helped us attract more funding."
The pitches will also be available to the council to use for summer camps, competitions and courses.
Councillor Mark Perks, Chorley Council's executive member for Leisure said: "This is great news for the people at Charnock Richard FC and the local community who will have use of the facilities.
"It is important to support local clubs and teams and we are sure Charnock Richard will go from strength to strength and reach the North West Counties League.
"It was only a few months ago we saw a new pavilion built at Euxton Villa FC and we hope this shows our commitment to developing sporting opportunities across the borough."
The next phase of the work at Charnock Richard FC will include improvements to the changing accommodation and floodlighting.
