The air ambulance landed on the M6 near Chorley on Sunday after a multiple accident left a motorcyclist injured.

The accident happened at 4.30pm on the northbound carriageway close to Charnock Richard services.

It involved four vehicles and a motorcycle.

Police said the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike after colliding with a vehicle whilst changing lanes.

Officers closed the motorway for an hour and hundreds of travellers left their vehicles to watch the drama unfold.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital with the helicopter landing on the northbound carriageway.

The injuries he received were not as bad as first feared.
