Police have praised an heroic motorist who dragged a woman from a burning car after a crash on the M6 near Charnock Richard.
Steve Wilson, 32, from Dumfries, came to the aid of a 56-year-old Lancaster woman who was trapped in her Rover 25 following a collision with a Peugeot and the central reservation.
The collision, which also involved a Renault Clio, happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday.
A police spokesman said: “There is no doubt that this man saved this woman’s life. It was very heroic.”
The woman was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with head injuries whilst a man, aged 32, and a 12-year-old boy, who were travelling in the Clio, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A stretch of the northbound motorway closed off for an hour following the accident, causing major queues.
An investigation is now underway and anyone who saw the accident is asked to call police on 08457 the Motorway Unit at Samlesbury on 01772 410465 or 01772 614444.
