A consultation period for a primary school for Buckshaw Village has begun.

Lancashire County Council has produced a consultation document about the provision of a new one form entry primary school to meet the demand created by ongoing planned housing development in the area.

What do you think? Is a primary school in Buckshaw a good idea or not?

It proposes that a primary school be provided on a reserved site in Buckshaw with places available from September 2010 or as soon as possible after.

The consultation runs until April 11 and people are invited to attend an open evening to find out more about the proposals and/or offer their views.

The open evening will be held at Runshaw College, Euxton Lane, Chorley, between 4pm-7pm on March 10.

County councillor Mark Perks, who represents, Chorley North, said: "I am strongly urging people to support these proposals.

"The extended schools initiative supports the development of schools as the location for other services such as childcare, health and adult education.

"A school has a key role to play in providing a sense of belonging for a neighbourhood and community.

"I hope residents living in Buckshaw Village will find the time to write to Lancashire County Council supporting the need for a school in the community."
