1,200 go for 140 jobs at Lancashire superstore
12:38pm Friday 13th August 2010 in Buckshaw
MORE than 1,200 people have a applied for just 140 jobs at a new Tesco store near Chorley.
Bosses at the under construction Buckshaw Village superstore said they had been inundated with interest from jobseekers.
Interviews have already started for the £6.47 an hours roles.
Manager Mark Lindley said: “I think the high volume of candidates is a sign of the times but it means we will get the pick of the crop.”
Tesco expects to interview around 500 people.
The 25,000 sq ft store is set to open in October and includes a petrol station due to open a week before the supermarket.
