A 13-year-old boy is in intensive care in hospital after he was seriously injured in a house fire yesterday afternoon.

The bedroom fire broke out at the stone-built terraced house in Bolton Road, Abbey Village, at 4pm.

Three people escaped unharmed, but the teenager suffered serious burns to his legs.

Neighbours rushed to his rescue.

He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital at Pendlebury.

The blaze is under investigation.

Police closed the A675 road at junction 3 of the M65.
