Plans to enhance and protect the heritage two of Chorley’s outlying conservation areas are set to be approved this week.
A thorough review of both the Abbey Village and Brindle conservation areas have been completed by the council and a raft of new suggestions have been put forward with the help of residents.
Abbey Village’s conservation area covers the main residential areas, off Bolton Road, and the iconic mill that can be seen for miles around.
The Brindle conservation area mainly includes an area to the south of Sandy Lane incorporating the Cavendish Arms pub, church and school.
Similar proposals for each area have been put forward.
They include attempts to reduce the speed of traffic passing through the villages; extending the conservation area to include areas that have a historical link to the villages; alternative car parking and exploring the potential for funding to assist with repairs and maintenance to important buildings.
Councillor Peter Malpas, who is responsible for conservation at Chorley Council, said: “Our nine conservation areas are extremely important to preserve the history and heritage of the borough for future generations.
“This doesn’t mean that they stay frozen in time and we review them on a regular basis and put forward new proposals to improve them and make sure they accommodate the demands of modern living.”
“The council has guidelines for people wanting to carry out any work to their property so everything remains in-keeping with the area.
“The conservation areas offer plenty of benefits for local people and the proposals put forward, with the help of residents, will help to enhance our valuable historic places of interest.”
Members of the council’s executive cabinet will be asked to endorse the appraisals on Thursday.
