Conservation on the agenda in two villages

Residents in two Chorley villages are being urged to have their say on the future by preserving the past.

As part of a review of conservation areas in the borough, Chorley Council is currently focussing on Abbey Village and Brindle.

Councillor Peter Malpas, Chorley Council’s Executive Member (Business) said: “We are reviewing all nine of our conservation areas in turn. So far three, St George’s and St Laurence’s, both in Chorley, have been done, as has Rivington.

“Now we are turning our attentions to Brindle and Abbey Village. This is an ideal opportunity for people who live in these villages to have their say on the future development and preservation of the character of each of the villages, so I would urge them to attend the public meetings we’ve organised.”

Public meetings are to be held in each of the villages to discuss the review, the key issues raised and proposals for the management of the conservation areas giving all residents a chance to voice their views or ideas they may have.

In Brindle the key issues include speeding traffic and on-street parking and ‘unsympathetic’ alterations to people’s homes using inappropriate materials. They will be discussed at the public meeting on Wednesday, March 24, at Brindle St James’ Primary School, Water Street, at 7pm.

The meeting in Abbey Village is at the village’s primary school in Bolton Road, on Tuesday, March 30 at 7pm.

The key issues highlighted by the review include satellite dishes on the front of houses, ‘unsympathetic’ alterations, inappropriate designs and materials used in modern developments and heavy through traffic and on-street parking.

Chorley currently has nine conservation areas in the borough, they are St George’s and St Laurence’s both in Chorley, Abbey Village, Bretherton, Brindle, Croston, Rivington, White Coppice and Withnell Fold.
