TWO cars overturned and ended up in a field after a four-car smash on a busy road at rush hour.
The accident, thought to be caused by ice, is the third crash in Belmont Road, on the outskirts of Abbey Village, in as many weeks.
A man and a woman, driving a Vauxhall Zafira and a Citroen C3, were taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after their cars span out of control, flipped and ended up 30 metres into a nearby field.
The man injured his head and arm, while the woman is thought to have fractured her ribs. Neither is thought to be seriously injured.
A Ford Puma and a Volkswagen LC35 van were also involved in the crash, which happened just after 7am today near the junction of Crookfield Road near Belmont.
Firefighters who attended the scene said it may have been caused by ice on the road, but police are still investigating how it happened.
The accidents follow the death of legal executive Munaza Hanif, of Blackburn, who was killed on the road last month.
Police say there were nine fatal and 32 serious accidents on the road between 2001 and 2006.
