Catch the bus for sport fun in Chorley area
5:10pm Wednesday 15th August 2012 in Chorley
The scheme is designed to help youngsters become more active
Young people living in outlying parts of Chorley borough are being urged to get on a free sports bus.
To help encourage more youngsters to get active, free transport will be put on to and from leisure centres where they can take part in free sports such as football, handball, dance and inline skating.
The service will run every Saturday for people aged 12 to 16-years-old serving all parts of the borough from Adlington and Coppull to Mawdesley and Brinscall.
Coun Bev Murray, who oversees Chorley Council’s leisure activities, said: “We realise that it is sometimes difficult for young people in outlying parts of the borough to get to leisure centres to take part in activities.
“While we do hold activities across a wide range of areas the idea of the sports bus is to make it much easier and cheaper for people to get into the main leisure centres.”
Beginning on Saturday the sports bus will have four main routes with one return journey each Saturday.
They are Eccleston – Mawdesley – Bretherton – Bishop Rawstorne High School; Hoghton – Withnell – Brinscall – Wheelton – Whittle-le-Woods – Clayton Green Sports Centre; Adlington – All Seasons Leisure Centre; Coppull – Charnock Richard – Euxton – Astley Village – All Seasons Leisure Centre.
Council staff will be on the bus at all times but parents will need to arrange onward travel to and from the pick up points.
The sports sessions, which will include a variety of free activities, will be led by fully-trained council staff.
Timetables will be available at the leisure centres as well as council buildings and on the website at www.chorley.gov.uk/sportsbus.
