One million visitors to leisure centres

Chorley’s leisure centres are soaring in popularity according to new attendance figures released this week.

For the first time, the number of visits to All Seasons Leisure Centre, Clayton Green Sports Centre and Brinscall Pool has topped one million.

This means that the three centres saw a rise in the number of visits by more than 10 per cent in 12 months.

The number of visits by people across all three centres from April 2011 to March 2012 was 1,019,889 compared to a figure of 901,678 the previous year.

This year has seen the launch of gym only and swim only memberships costing £20 plus a ‘legacy membership’ which is an all-inclusive membership available until the end of the Olympics and includes swim, gym, group exercise and racquet sport.

Councillor Bev Murray, who oversees the centres for Chorley Council, said: “This is a real milestone that we’ve achieved and proves our centres are more popular than ever before with people wanting to become, and stay, more active.”

Brian Ratcliffe, deputy contract manager for Active Nations, who run the centres said: “Our most popular activities are gym, swimming, group exercise, junior courses and sports hall sports.

“For the adults, our most recent success has been the weekly boot camp we’ve run from Clayton Green Sports Centre at Cuerden Valley Park.

“So we intend to add morning boot camp courses during the week from 6.15am to 7am to give a week-long exercise burst to kick start your activity plan.”
