Publican failed breathalyser

A Coppull publican failed a breathalyser when he was stopped by police as he went to pick up a regular customer on a Sunday afternoon.

Blackburn magistrates heard Ronald Ian Bury, who ran the Black Bull Hotel, Lowergate Road, Accrington, at the time, claimed he had only drunk one pint that day but felt it may have topped him up from the night before.

Bury, 62, now of the Alison Arms, Preston Road, Coppull, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £100 with £100 costs and banned from driving for 22 months.

Gareth Price, defending, said Bury ran the Black Bull with his partner and had been working on the Saturday night when he had a few drinks.

“He had a pint on the Sunday but felt fine to drive,” said Mr Price.
