Chorley children receive special bravery award from Camelot

Five children from Chorley have been given a special award in recognition of their bravery.

Four-year-olds Ted Ryall and Ben Hart, Kristian Haslam, seven, Declan Fisher, 13, and Savanna Wilby McQuoid, three, were chosen to receive a knighthood from Camelot Theme Park’s King Arthur.

Watched by hundreds of guests including friends and family, King Arthur presented the true knights in shining armour with an honorary knighthood and a certificate.

They were five of 30 children from all over the North West to receive this special award.

The annual search set out to find children who have overcome personal difficulties, tried extra hard at school, or spent time helping others.

Camelot marketing manager, Sandra Dempsey said: “Ted, Ben, Kristian, Declan and Savanna have been incredibly brave and it was a pleasure to see them rewarded.

“The Knights In Shining Armour ceremony is a favourite of mine and I enjoy it each and every year.

“This year it was particularly touching and it was lovely to meet all of their friends and family who were obviously so proud.”

After the ceremony the families enjoyed the rest of the day at Camelot and are now able to come back and visit whenever they want with their family season pass.

Ted helps his brother who has autism, while Ben Hart was diagnosed March 2011 with B Cell Lymphoma and went through gruelling treatment.

Kristian suffers from a rare chromosome disorder called Trisomy 8 Mosaicism and Declan was nominated for his bravery in dealing with a hole in his heart and a heart murmur.

Savanna was knighted as her dad can be away frequently as he is a soldier in the Royal Engineers.
