A Chorley man has triumphed in competition to design a T-shirt for Premier League giants Manchester City.

Andrew Mallalieu, 27, a graphic designer from Astley Village, was announced the winner by kit manufacturer Umbro at Saturday’s game with Sunderland.

Thousands voted in the competition, in which Andrew’s shirt was among five finalists.

The club’s players, including England goalkeeper Joe Hart and World Cup winner David Silva, wore the winning design during their pre-match warm up.

The shirt is now on sale in the City Store at the Etihad Stadium, raising money for City’s Shoot For The Moon charity.

Andrew, who is head of design at Creative Spark in Manchester, was one of five finalists chosen from the hundreds of entries, with City fans then voting it as their favourite.

Andrew, a former Parklands High School pupil, is a season ticket holder and was at the game on Saturday.

He said: “I spotted the competition on the city website.

“The opportunity to have my design made into a T-shirt and sold in the City Store wasn't something to miss out on.

“I was really pleased with the results but didn't think I'd end up winning.

“My inspiration for the design came from our club’s rich heritage. I don’t bemoan certain fans for not recognising all the items, I hope it can educate some of the younger supporters.

“I was great to see the players wearing it.”
