AN ice-cream maker has created a special royal wedding-themed flavour, using ultra-expensive ingredients, which he hopes will land him a place in the record books.
Colin Bleasdale, 42, from Chorley, runs Bleasdale’s home-made ice creams with his wife Rachel, 37.
He believes his luxurious recipe will be fit for a future king, and his soon-to-be Princess.
After several attempts at a decadent recipe, Colin settled on truffle honey and 24-carat gold leaf covered caramel as the ingredients for what he believes could be a world record for the most expensive ice-cream.
The special flavour will be on sale for around £15 a cone.
And a giant ice-cream cone royal wedding bouquet will be auctioned, with the proceeds going to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute, which helps out farmers and employees who face difficulties.
The unoffical royal wedding ice-cream will be available at the Easter Extravaganza, at Samlesbury Hall, on Easter Sunday and Monday, between 11am and 4pm.
Colin, who is also an art teacher, said: “We thought it would be fun to do something linked in with the royal event and also use it to publicise the quality of ingredients we have here in Lancashire.
"I’ve used traditional vanilla as the base. The truffle honey is an acquired taste, but I think it goes well with the sweetness of the caramel.
“The pure gold leaf is edible and we are also using it to coat the cones.”
Colin used the posh scoop as the centrepiece of a wedding posy, made entirely of ice-cream, with a dash of colour added from blackcurrant-flavoured scoops.
He is in correspondence with the Guinness Book of Records on whether the price of the ice-cream will set a new record.
“I researched it and the only record similar was the most expensive dessert,” he said.
“Hopefully it will get recognised as the most expensive ice-cream cone and Lancashire will get the record.”
