A healthcare company says it plans to create around 100 jobs in Lancashire after opening an office in Buckshaw Village.

The jobs boost follows the decision by the HICA Group to expand its homecare operations in the North West.

HICA Homecare is recruiting 20 care support workers now, with over 80 more due to be appointed within the next six months.

As part of the expansion, HICA’s Homecare Division has opened regional offices at Buckshaw Retirement Village, near Chorley. HICA operates the retirement village as a partner in the Oakbridge Retirement Villages joint venture.

The 100 new recruits, who will need to have experience in the care sector, will work within one of two teams.

A domiciliary care team will visit people in their homes in Buckshaw Retirement Village and throughout the North West to provide everything from a half hour visit through to round-the-clock care, if required.

An intermediate care team will help older people who have been in hospital to make the transition back to life at home.

This transitional care will be provided within Buckshaw Retirement Village’s assisted living facility, The Grange, and in some cases a short stay at The Grange may even be an alterative to a hospital stay.

Penni Brown, Director of HICA’s Village and Homecare Operations, said: “We now believe there is tremendous potential for growth in the North West due to the increasing demand for people to be cared for in their own homes. For example, in central Lancashire there are more than 11,000 people aged over 75 living alone, and that figure is predicted to rise to more than 15,000 by 2020.”

HICA Homecare currently has over 600 staff and offices in Hull, Bradford, Doncaster, Grimsby and Chorley, providing care to more than 1,300 clients.
