Multi-national firm to create 140 jobs in Chorley

Global company Kimberly-Clark has sealed a move into Lancashire which will see up to 140 jobs created in Chorley.

The company will move into the former Wolseley distribution centre in Buckshaw Village, in a deal believed to be in the region of £24M.

The company, which includes households brands such as Kleenex, Andrex and Huggies, has signed the deal and outlined its timetable for getting the 360,000 sq ft distribution centre up and running.

Peter Surtees, European supply chain director for Kimberly-Clark, said: “We’re excited about the move into Chorley, the town is the ideal location for us with fantastic motorway links across the North of England and into Scotland.

“We’re planning a significant investment in the infrastructure of the building and hope to have it operational by the end of the year, with plans to begin using it in early 2011.”

Councillor Peter Goldsworthy, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “Buckshaw Village was always earmarked for new business because of its location, close to the M61, M6 and M62 motorways.

“This is testament to that vision and I’d like to heartily welcome Kimberly-Clark.”

The company plans to appoint a third party logistics company to operate the building and, through this appointment, will come the creation of up to 140 jobs, expected to be in a range of areas including administration, warehouse distribution and management.

The unit was originally purpose built for Wolseley UK which made a decision that it was surplus to requirements in early 2009. Kimberly-Clark then identified the building as being suitable for its northern distribution.
