New maps on display in Chorley town centre

Visitors to Chorley will be able to make their way around the town centre a little easier with new maps pointing them in the right direction.

Some of the old maps have been replaced by Chorley Council and news ones have been added in town centre pedestrian areas including New Market Street, Fazakerley Street and the covered market.

Councillor Peter Malpas, Chorley Council’s executive member for business, said: “We realise that the maps needed improving and traders have also told us they need updating so that’s what we have done.

“The replacements will be a lot clearer making it easier for visitors to find their way around the town.”

The maps will replace some of the current ones including those in the town’s shopper car parks and on the Flat Iron market.

They will include the town’s main landmarks, the pedestrianised area and cover an area from Park Road to Pall Mall and the railway station to Devonshire Road.

“The maps look a lot brighter and we have worked closely with traders to make sure they include everything we need to welcome visitors to the town,” said Coun Malpas.

“This is just one of many things we are doing to make Chorley a more attractive place for visitors and shoppers.”

The maps were drawn up in consultation with local businesses and will provide useful information for people unfamiliar with Chorley.

Gwynne Furlong, president of the town’s Chamber of Trade, said it was good to see the maps in place.

“It’s important that people visiting Chorley can find their way around and know where the main shopping areas and car parks are,” said Mr Furlong.

“The maps are a good addition to the town centre and I hope they will make Chorley a more friendly place to come and visit.”
