Nurses dip into history for charity calendar

The Preston Royal Infirmary League of Nurses has produced an historic calendar to raise money for cancer patients from across Lancashire.

The league, to mark its 80th anniversary, has produced a calendar based on photographs of nursing staff and wards throughout the ages at Royal Preston Hospital, in aid of the region’s leading cancer charity.

The calendar has already raised over £2,000 for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Snape Printers donated a print run free of charge.

The calendar costs £3.50 to buy and is available from the Rosemere Coffee Shop in the Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital, with all profits going toward the charity.

Joyce Chessell of the Preston Royal Infirmary League of Nurses, who also works on a voluntary basis in the Rosemere coffee shop produced the calendars.

Joyce said: “I am delighted the calendars have sold as well as they have and we have sold nearly 500 and have had to place another order with Snape Printers. It is fascinating to see how Preston Royal Infirmary, as it used to be called, looked and the nurses look very different to the ones you’ll see now.”
