Chorley poker ace Jon Kalmar is hoping for a repeat perferomance as he competes in The World Series of Poker on Las Vegas. The tournament is the world's biggest and richest poker tournament as he takes on the great and good for a world title and a credit crunch busting $8.5 million first prize Jon is currently eighth going into the second round of the tournament and if goes well has another six days of poker to play.
This is Jon's Second shot at the The WSOP title and gold bracelet he came painfully close two years ago in 2007, when he finished fifth winning $1.25m.
6494 runners started and less than half the field remain including team mate six times World snooker Champion Steve Davis.
Both Jon and Steve are the co-captains of 15 strong Team Ladbrokes Jon said: "I am extremely focused and determined - I had a similar run two years ago and I'm feeling quietly confident that I will make it through the field."
The total prize pool of the WSOP Main Event is over $61m, which means that the final nine will become instant millionaires on July 15.
