A 14-year-old cyclist has been left critically injured following a hit-and-run in Chorley.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident in which a blue Audi S3 and the boy’s bike were in collision.

The incident happened in Standish Way near to the A6, Bolton Road at around 8pm on Friday.

The 14-year-old boy, who is from Chorley, was taken to the Manchester Children’s Hospital with serious head injuries where he remains in a critical condition.

A 26-year-old man from Chorley has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop. An Audi has been recovered for forensic examination.

Sgt Marc Glass said: “My thoughts are with the boy and his family at this difficult time.

“If you witnessed the incident or have information which might assist the investigation please make contact with us as you may have information that could assist with our investigation.”
