The court noted they were "very serious offences" and issued a warrant for his arrest.

The 39-year-old was found guilty of three counts of causing unnecessary suffering – relating to a female pig, a pig and a piglet – on December 10 in Bolton by failing to provide an adequate diet and an adequate supply of fresh drinking water and access to a well-drained lying area.

Norris was further convicted of three counts of breaching animal welfare regulations by failing to ensure three pigs over two weeks of age for which he had responsibility had "well-drained lying areas" as well as "an adequate supply of fresh drinking water" and "a wholesome diet appropriate to their age and species and which was fed to them in sufficient quantity to maintain them in good health".

The final count of which Norris, of Buttermere Avenue, Chorley, and previously of The Avenue, Adlington, was found guilty was an unspecified offence under the Animal Health Act 1981.
