A DENTIST who has treated generations of people during a 35-year career in Chorley is to retire this weekend.

Andrew Brierley, 59, of Southport Road Dental, has spent all but a few months of his career working in the town.

He began his career in the Rossendale area after graduating from his university studies in Sheffield.

Soon afterwards he moved to the practice in Queens Road, Chorley, in June, 1980. He moved to the current premises after a few years later.

Mr Brierley lives in Bolton with wife Stella and and has two daughters and three grandchildren.

He said: “I have more than a hundred patients who have been with me for 35 years and I joke that the newcomers have only been at the practice for 20 years.

“I would like to think I have done some good as most of my patients have been able to retain their natural teeth during this time.

“I would like to thank all my patients and the staff at the practice for supporting me over that period. I wish everyone well for the future.”

He will be handing over his patients to Rashmi Hickey, who is the wife of Southport Road Dental’s owner David Hickey.

Mr Brierley said: “My successor has always been very important to me.

“Rahsmi is very experienced and knowledgeable and I am confident she will provide excellent dental care.”

Mr Brierley said he will spend his retirement by tr- avelling, spending time wi- th his grandchildren and pursuing his passion for cars.

He owns a smart Porsche 928 model.
