A CHORLEY family escaped a late night blaze last night.

Firefighters from Chorley were called to the terraced home, in The Crescent, where they tackled a fire in the kitchen while wearing breathing apparatus.

The cause was later found to be an electrical fault in a tumble dryer, a fire service spokesman said.

Elderly parents and two middle-aged children had been woken up by a smoke alarm at around 10.45pm before escaping and calling for help.

However, a man was treated with oxygen at the scene after inhaling smoke.

A cat was also rescued.

The family was taken to a hotel.
