DETECTIVES have issued an appeal after a 30-year-old man was left with 'life-threatening' head injuries following violence in Chorley town centre.
Police say a fight broke out involving a number of men at the corner of Union Street and Park Road, just aftermidnight on Sunday.
CCTV footage has emerged of a Good Samaritan who apparently intervened after a 30-year-old man from Lostock Hall was felled.
Det Supt Eddie Thistlethwaite said: "The victim was knocked unconscious and has been operated on at the Royal Preston Hospital, where he remains critically ill, with life-threatening head injuries."
The man who came to the victim's aid was white, in his 20s, slim, around 6ft tall, with dark hair, wearing a light-coloured or grey hooded top.
Police also believe drinkers in the nearby White Hart pub's beer garden may also have witnessed the fight.
Four men, two aged 19, one 20-year-old and a 24-year-old, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remained in custody last night. Witnesses are asked to call police on 101.
