FIREFIGHTERS rescued a person suffering from back and neck injuries following a car smash early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the collision in Chorley Road, Withnell at around 5.30am.

A silver Volkswagen Golf had collided with a van and both vehicles were said to have been badly damaged.

Firefighters cut the driver out of the car and the person was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

The driver of the van was treated by paramedics at the scene but is said thought to have been unharmed.
