A celebration of 75 years of the Royal Ordnance Factory in Chorley has taken place.

The history of the munitions factory has been brought back to life by students at Runshaw Adult College, which is now based on part of the former ROF site.

College staff and students and guests recreated an iconic picture taken in 1964, for the factory’s silver jubilee, in front of what was the administration building.

Christina Cooper, marketing executive at the college, said: “There has been so much interest from the public it has been overwhelming, people have been willing to reflect and share their memories and memorabilia with us.

“It has been a great community project and we have heard some fascinating memories about life at the factory.”

At its peak there were 35,000 men and women working at the factory, and it is famous for being the factory were by the bouncing bombs were filled.
