Lancashire comedian Ted Robbins learns seatbelt lesson

BELTING UP Ted has now learned his lesson BELTING UP Ted has now learned his lesson

COMEDIAN Ted Robbins held his hands up after police caught him not wearing a seatbelt.

The funnyman had been in the passenger seat chatting on the phone to his sister Emma and was about to put his seatbelt on when their car was stopped by officers.

Ted, his wife Judy and their two children were barely 300 yards from their home when police flagged them down in Rawtenstall, around 2pm on Wednesday.

The radio presenter, who works at Radio Lancashire in Blackburn, said he instantly knew what he had done wrong and said he would belt up from now on.

Police had been carrying out a spot check in the area when the family were stopped.

He was given a fixed penalty notice and attended a road safety awareness course in conjunction with police and Lancashire Fire and rescue at Rawtenstall fire station last night.

Ted, who said the family were on the way to the dentist, said: “I’m trying to be positive about it. The officers were nice about it.

“I was on the phone to my sister Emma while I getting into the car and I had pulled my seatbelt half over me when we were stopped. I wasn’t driving.

“My 18-year-old daughter was rolling her eyes because I was embarrassing her.

“She tells me off for not wear-ing my seatbelt all the time.

“I don’t always wear it, people of a certain age don’t if they are just going down the road but if you brake you will go through the windscreen.

“But I will be wearing it from now on.”

He added: “I have always supported the authorities.

"The message to everyone is phone off, seatbelt on and don’t drink and drive.

"I don’t drink and drive anyway.”

Oh good lord. More appalling reporting without checking the facts. "Comedian"? "Funny man"? Outrageous.

Jeez, a guy didn't put his seatbelt on.

Call that NEWS?

What next? A cyclist was caught without a helmet? Woman went shopping without her Nectar card? Schoolboy didn't hand his homework in?

A few more radio presnters should "belt up." Didn't Robbins used to gag around with Sally and Jim on his show as The Happy Dafters? Daft as a brush. My security word here is huge-lack. A huge ego, lack of common sense,Ted.

At least he held his hand up and didn't hire an expensive lawyer to get him off, not like that k**bhead Jimmy Carr when he was caught talking on a mobile.

Mentioning that he was Paul McCartney`s cousin obviously didn`t wash with these officers.

His daughter tells him off for not wearing his seatbelt and he says that he doesn't always wear it.
It serves him right for getting caught.

Comedian ?? Funny man ?? Says who ?? Surely an offence under The Trades Description Act ?
Actually serves him right - setting a poor example to others and illegal. Let's hope the so called "funny man" has learnt his lesson.

It's the drivers responsibility to ensure that all passengers are belted up, otherwise THEY commit an offence. I hope the driver was given a fixed penalty also.

Actually no, it's the driver's responsibility for passengers under 14. Ted Robbins hasn't seen 14 for a long time.
