A BLACKBURN man has signed up for the Jane Tomlinson Pennine Lancashire 10k run in memory of his grandfather who died after suffering from motor neurone disease.

Grant Prescott, 28, of Ewood, Blackburn, will be one of thousands taking part in the July 11 event around Blackburn.

Grant is pledging his support and sponsor money to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

His grandfather Jack Prescott, who lived in Cherry Tree, died in May 2008 aged 75.

The former Our Lady and St John’s High School pupil hopes that his effort will raise both awareness of the disease and money for the charity.

He said: “There’s not enough coverage and I do anything I can to raise awareness of the issue so that hopefully the government will think about it more and give the association more funding. There’s still no cure for motor neurone disease.”

Anyone 15 and over who is interested in running in the Pennine Lancashire 10k, which is setting off from Witton Park, can download an entry form from www.runforall.com/pennine-lancashire/ The event aims to raise money for a number of local charities such as The Christie Hospital, Derian House and East Lancashire Hospice.

But participants can also raise money for a charity of their own choice.
