Police uncover Lancashire 'paedophile parties'

A MAJOR investigation into girls being groomed for sex by older men has uncovered disturbing ‘paedophile parties’ in Lancashire.

The victims, aged as young as 12, are often forced to have sex with a number of men at the gatherings.

And many have been brainwashed into believing they are doing the sickening acts as favours, police said.

The shock findings were uncovered by the Operation Engage team, which was launched four years ago as the Lancashire Telegraph’s Keep Them Safe campaign first highlighted the problem of gangs grooming girls for sex.

The Lancashire Telegraph investigation revealed fears that a network of predatory men were plying girls with alcohol and drugs and bribing them with gifts in return for sex.

Officers said they had now received ‘sporadic’ reports of girls being taken to parties and abused by a number of men.

Detective Sergeant Mark Whelan, who leads the team, said this represented ‘trafficking’.

He said: “We see children being taken to Blackpool, Burnley, Preston and Manchester.

“The girl is at a house party, thinking she’s with her boyfriend.

"But while she’s there, he might ask her to have sex with a friend.

“She’s performing sex acts for favours, but thinks she’s protecting the man she loves.

“It is not really about a group of old men waiting for a child to be delivered to them.

“The much greater majority is children picked up, taken to a party or a ‘pad’ and while there, they may be abused.

“Children are being groomed into having sex with a paedophile. That’s the bottom line.”

The Engage team was launched as the Lancashire Telegraph’s Keep Them Safe campaign highlighted the problem of girls being groomed for sex by older men.

The team, which is a partnership of police, social services, health groups and children’s charities, specialises in tracking down offenders who groom teenagers for sex, and offers support and protection to the victims and their families.

Operation Engage is now a respected nationwide authority on child sexual exploitation and in the wake of a disturbing report from charity Barnado’s, Det Sgt Whelan lifted the lid on the local picture.

The ‘Whose Child Now?’ report released last week was critical of local authorities failing to provide specialist services for victims of child trafficking.

But members of the Engage multi-agency team claim they are already aware of the emerging underground trends highlighted by concerned experts.

Det Sgt Mark Whelan said so-called ‘paedophile parties’ and ‘child trafficking’ are happening in the area, but in ways the public might not immediately recognise.

He said the Barnardo’s report brought up ‘legitimate concerns’ about paedophile trends, but insisted through Operation Engage, Blackburn with Darwen is leading the fight.

Det Sgt Whelan said: “Prosecution statistics don’t fully reflect the level of work which goes into tackling the trafficking of local kids.

“Are we displacing offenders? No, we are arresting them.

“If we know that children are taken or trafficked out of town for sex, we will find the offenders.

“They blame themselves, not realising they’ve been groomed and thinking they are the architect of their own downfall.

“We want to try and catch the lot.”

This is disgusting, they need to be caught asap & punished accordingly!!!!

The Police need to be driving around on patrol late at night & pull over the cars with such guys in it who have young girls sat as "happy" passengers.

What's wrong is wrong - and it doesn't matter which community they come from they need to be caught and punished - and punished severely. These people aren't the ones that listen to authority, so the only option is physical or chemical castration !

I agree that in East Lancs the perpetrators appear to be mainly Asians but it just doesn't stop at them. The thing that really sickens me is when these perverts are organised like this. Also I believe (rightly or wrongly) that because there is stigma attached to this that some communities will actively hinder police inquiries.

Totally agree.
Sick scumbags, these are the lowest of the low.
They should be castrated and sent down for a very long time.
Thank god for the engage team, at least they are doing something about it.

There appears to be very heavy censorship on this topic.
I entered a non controversial comment that has disappeared.
I will not be commenting on any Telegraph articles in future.
So much for free speech.

I suppose that it is a cultural thing.

nosimongarner, stop being so narrow minded. Is it a cultural thing when our women work as nursery nurses & become paedos at work & send photos across the internet to other weirdos? Is it cultural when our sunday schools have teachers from the 1970s who are now convicted of all sorts of abuse from back then?

This is the problem with some of our folk in lancashire, far too narrow minded and dare I say it, thick!!!

You are right and it is typical of all the British main stream media. They are frightened to death of the true British population waking up to what is occurring in the UK and trying to keep the lid on things to prevent riots and eventual civil war. It is too late, the genie is out of the bottle and the public mood is worsening daily.

RK . . where in the article does it mention the word, "Asian" ? Am I missing something? Do you know more? Do you have an inside track. Will you please explain where this comes from in relation to this article?
.
No beef - only curious.

Ah, there you go, kenbro, you've hit the nail on the head. Thing is, the more they keep censoring things, the more people will notice, and the worse things will get.
I put a comment on saying this was neither a racial nor religious issue, but a criminal one, and even that was taken off!

Dirty, filthy & despicable reprobate's.

I don't give a chuff what colour, creed or nationality they are. In a society that find's this behaviour abhorrent their is no excuse on the part of the perpetrators other than self gratifacation with no conscience for the trauma that will undoubtedly follow in these victims.

This is a second report on this matter in as many months, which tells me that the situation is very much still in our midst & even with this dedicated team working around the clock, obviously not enough is being given to the cause through funding? Whatever the reason, everything should be done to make these reprobates are aware that we(the public) are watching & commenting on this sickening behaviour.

Every person on this planet as the potential to murder & as an earlier poster said they would have no problem in carrying this out should it ever happen to one of their own? I will second that motion. Nothing else in this life sickens I more than this despicable act carried out on the most vulnerable in society.

Keep up the good work those of the 'Operation Engage'

I despair :(

It disgusts me how these vile People work, finding young vunerable girls to pray on, did anyone remember the panaroma doc a couple of yrs ago? Well my friends girl was the one who was groomed for sex & passed around , then had to go back coz they said to her they'd kill her family. She was moved to a place of safety in Wales, where she was tracked down by they 30 & 40 + yr old men who kidnapped her & raped her until she managed to escape. Both serving lenghty sentences at present until the justice system allows them out on good behaviour no doubt. The work of engage & freedom should be commended for dealing with this problem head on, & 2 yrs ago there where only 2 police officers on these teams now there's more, and more officers & workers needed to be more effective. But this is a huge problem & yes Asians seem to be at the front of it & communities do ignore it along with the drink, drugs, domestic violence etc which are all prevelant but their eyes are closed to it. These girls are usually victims of a broken home & these men take advantage by giving them presents, drink, drugs, cigs & make them feel loved & safe, then they want favours back and the paedos pay these guys for the interaction with the girls. Other times I've heard of girls of 14 "falling in love" with 35 yr olds, & yes I agree it happens across the board, but your more likely to hear about a 35 yr old White person having intercourse with a minor than an Asian person. No doubt the PC crew think it'll cause racially tensions!

"In 2006 a Lancashire Telegraph investigation revealed the problem of girls being befriended by predominantly Asian groups of men, who shower them with gifts and attention then give them drink and drugs"

So in this report it was fine to highlight the disgusting perverts as being predominantly asian - but now there seems to be distinct element of censorship?!?!? Hmmm i wonder why? maybe its a different group of people?
