BOSSES of Rosslee Construction Ltd are hoping to use the Training Award as a springboard for expansion.
Gary Clarkson took over the company from founder Ross Lee in 2002 when the firm had a turnover of £230,000, and a workforce of three.
Since then the firm, based in Black Abbey Street, Accrington, has experienced significant growth with turnover now £1.8million.
It employs 23 staff with skills in various trades.
And a key factor in helping achieve the growth was investment in training programmes for workers.
As well as ensuring staff meet the latest health and safety requirements, bosses work with East Lancashire's colleges to enrol apprentices, and sponsor them while they study a Modern Apprenticeship to NVQ level III over three years.

Rosslee has already sponsored four apprentices who, between them, are now qualified joiners, bricklayers, and plasterers, working for the company.
Another three apprentices are working towards becoming joiners and brickies, with the aim of being employed by the firm.
Training is not just restricted to tradesmen and apprentices.
Admin staff based in the firm's Black Abbey Street offices can also go on courses to upgrade their IT and accountancy skills.
Rosslee clients include many of the area's local authorities, including Blackburn with Darwen, Pendle, Ribble Valley, and Rossendale Councils.
As well as its training programme, Rosslee is currently extending its 3,500sq ft base by 1,500sq ft, which will allow it to create further office space, and relocate and upgrade its joinery manufacturing workshop.
Mr Clarkson, managing director, said the award was a testament to the company's hard-working staff.
He said: "We have a very loyal workforce that always backs the company, which has been very important in helping us grow.
"Hopefully this award will help raise the profile of the company, and people will realise we are a serious company and take pride in what we do.
"Going forward we will be looking to improve every aspect of the business."
Christine Clarkson, a company director and Mr Clarkson's wife, said: "We are gobsmacked that we have won, and training is something that is really important to us.
"We are always looking to improve and have recently expanded the building so we will be looking to increase the business, as well as the number of staff."
