Start of work on Burnley's University Technical College is welcomed

A BURNLEY businessman has welcomed the start of work on the North West’s first University Technical College in the heart of Burnley’s Weaver’s Triangle.
Ged Ennis, operations director of The Low Carbon Energy Company, sees the development, at Victoria Mill, as a key element in the continued renaissance of Burnley, and expects the UTC to have significant benefits for businesses across the area.
The Low Carbon Energy Company was the first business to relocate to the Weaver’s Triangle. Mr Ennis expects to have a good working relationship with the UTC, and sees it as an obvious source of talent when considering recruitment options.
He said: “The UTC reiterates that Burnley is becoming a centre for educational excellence, as well as a regionally-significant centre for advanced manufacturing.
“It’s very important to be here as we’re determined to ensure that sustainability is a part of the agenda and it’s very advantageous to have a pool of technical and manufacturing talent on your doorstep.”
Work at Victoria Mill began this week after confirmation of a £9.5million Education Funding Agency grant.
