BURNLEY bed and sofa manufacturer Sweet Dreams has announced a £2million expansion at its site in the town.

The firm said the move, at their base in Primrose Mill, Martin Street, will see an increase in production and the creation of a permanent showroom.

The announcement secures the firm’s future in the town. And it follows a successful period for the company, which started in 1988 and now employs over 180 people.

The new state-of-the-art storage facility will be built by Nelson firm Barnfield Construction.

Sweet Dreams owner and managing director Riaz Ahmed said that while divans and mattresses remain the company’s core product, last year the firm started manufacturing their own collection of sofas and chairs. The firm has also become sole distributors for a bedroom cabinet manufacturer.

Mr Ahmed said: “We’re looking forward to the completion of our new facility as the extra space is now essential to our operations.”

Work is expected to be completed at the site by the end of the year.

Last year Sweet Dreams bough the 2.5 acre site next to Primrose Mill. Before that products were stored at a second location in the town.

Sweet Dreams sales manager Jackie McGarvey said: “Being able to organise deliveries from a single site will add enormously to our efficiency.

“It will also mean that we have space to expand our production operations and to create a permanent showroom.”

The investment effectively secures the long-term future of Sweet Dreams at Primrose Mill site, which had been under pressure of space over the last few years as the company diversified into new lines and extended its manufacturing facility.
