Business boost for East Lancs aerospace giant

Rolls-Royce has announced a tie-up with airline Cathay Pacific in a boost to its East Lancashire plant.

The aerospace giant will supply its Trent XWB engine to power 30 Airbus A350-900 aircrafts to be operated by Cathay Pacific from 2016.

Fan blades for the XWB are manufactured at Rolls’ factory in Barnoldswick, which employs 1,000 workers.

Mark King, Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace president, said: “The Trent XWB is the fastest-selling and most environmentally efficient Trent engine ever.

“We are delighted that Cathay Pacific has again selected Rolls-Royce technology to power their new fleet and combined this with our TotalCare support package.”
