Hunt for East Lancs regeneration boss off due to cuts fear

THE search for a new £125,000-a-year boss to lead the regeneration of East Lancashire has been called off – less than a month after it started.

High-profile adverts were placed in national media to find a new chief executive for Regenerate Pennine Lancashire (RPL), the publicly-funded body set up to boost economic growth.

But now the hunt has been axed because of fears over future funding of the organisation.

Instead, RPL will appoint an interim chief executive from the existing management team, based in Accrington’s Globe Centre.

An RPL spokeswoman said: “Because of the current uncertainty we have suspended the recruitment process of the new chief executive.

“The post will not be filled immediately because we want clarification on future funding, and what the requirements will be going forward.”

She said the interim boss will be in place until at least March 2011.

The selection process will be a straight fight between RPL economic development director Steve Hoyle, and Jackie Mason, housing market renewal director.

RPL is set to have its housing market renewal budget drastically slashed by the new Coalition Government.

A new chief executive is needed after Max Steinberg quit to take a similar job in Liverpool.
