A BURNLEY energy company has submitted plans to use a Bury river to produce electricity.

Bosses at Resolution Hydro have applied for permission to use state-of-the-art technology to turn a section of the river near Warth Fold Road, Radcliffe, into a mini power station feeding the National Grid.

The plans will see a screw turbine at the centre of the facility.

The application says: “It will improve a part of the river and add new life to an area of redundancy.

“It will provide a valuable renewable energy to the local distribution grid.”

Khezer Khan, who works for Resolution Hydro’s agent, TJ Booth Associates, said: “Other companies have done it before, but it is a relatively new piece of technology that allows you to generate electricity with the flow of the water turning generators.

“It is too early to say how much electricity will be generated and how much money it is worth.”

Bury council will announce a decision on August 20.
