Marsden Building Society to close two branches in Burnley

AN EAST Lancashire building society is closing two branches in Burnley.

But bosses at the Marsden Building Society said there will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of the amalgamation of its Briercliffe Road Retail Park and Padiham Road, Ightenhill, branches to one location in St James Street, in the town centre.

Workers will be offered alternative employment, either within the branch network or at the head office in Nelson.

Neil Shoesmith, chief executive, said: “I can assure you that this decision has not been taken lightly.

"The Society recognises that this change may cause inconvenience for some of our members."
