Ben's verdict

Black Cat: 3.4per cent abv. Very Guinness-like taste and not at all how I expected mild to taste like. There is an almost burnt flavouring to it but I must admit I couldn’t taste the chocolate which David assured me was there.

Premier Bitter: 3.7per cent abv. Quite a crisp taste with an almost citrusy tang to it. There is very much a bitter after-taste to it that leaves a distinct impression.

Pride of Pendle: 4.1 per cent abv. More comparable to smooth bitters I’ve tasted with a bit more of the traditional flavours that I, as a lager drinker, was expecting from a real ale.

Blond Witch: 4.5per cent abv. This pale ale is very smooth and had a lighter taste, closer to a lager taste. Very drinkable and a good one to wean lager drinkers off their favourite fizzy alcoholic drinks.

Pendle Witches Brew: 5.1per cent abv. As David Grant assured me, this was the one that most appealed to the lager drinker in me. Quite sweet and very drinkable, especially for such a strong beer.
