A NEW laundrette has launched inside a supermarket.

24 Laundromat’s launch event was held with Deputy Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council Cllr Pat McFall officially opening the new laundrette, based at the town centre Morrison's store.

The Blackburn laundrette is the company’s first business location in the UK and the pilot project has been supported by Blackburn Council in different ways throughout its development.

It has received direct support from the council offices and their introductions to external service providers.

With a launch offer of 100 free washes, the laundromat was busy with new and returning customers. The launch event also saw many members of the public arriving at the laundrette to learn more about it and enjoy the refreshments available on the day.

The fully self-service, card payment-only laundrette is a new concept to the UK.

Allergy tested, unscented detergent is automatically added to the washing machines.

The laundrette boasts a number of washer sizes, the largest taking up to two double duvets.  There’s also a specific washer for machine-washable rugs and pet beds.

Available washing programmes range from delicate to down items and tumble dryers and drying lockers complete the laundrette visit.

The laundrette, within Morrisons supermarket in Blackburn, coupled with the fast, 30-minutes washes makes doing your washing quick, convenient and safe, says the company.

Laundry can be done whilst shopping for groceries, during the same long opening hours as the supermarket.

A spokesman said: “Our key target of the launch event was to get people to know about us and to find out how easy, fast and convenient it is to use our services. When listening to our customers at the event, we achieved our target.

“We look forward to seeing a growing number of people choosing the better way to do their laundry, with us.”
