A 'SUPER' opticians formed in Blackburn four years ago is standing out for its commitment to the borough.
Tyrrells and Embery was formed after a merger in 2013 and has since 'put East Lancashire on the map for eyecare'.
The Darwen Street opticians offers much more than eye tests and glasses fittings - as an accredited NHS eye specialist the branch can diagnose eye conditions, which would otherwise have to be done at a hospital.
We reported in 2015 how the opticians was instrumental in the early eye cancer diagnosis for Clayton-le-Moors grandmother Yvonne Quinn - saving her life.
Haroon Ahmed, director and optometrist, said that their potentially life saving services set them apart and was hopeful of a win in the Hive Corporate Commitment to Blackburn and Darwen category.
Mr Ahmed said: "Back in 2013 we merged and formed Tyrrells and Embery as a super opticians.
"We obviously carry out eye tests and dispense glasses but we do a lot more.
"We are NHS accredited which means that we can offer enhanced services."
He added: "I am really hopeful that we can win the award - we have put Blackburn on the map in terms of eyecare, people from all over the country visit for eye treatment."
